Güde - The Knife. – The (re-)discovery of cutting
Even at first glance, it's clear that The Knife has relatively little in common with a conventional chef's knife. The seemingly short handle and the strikingly large blade with its very wide spine—which can only be achieved with a forged knife—make one think more of a designer object.
But once you've worked with The Knife., you'll realize that it's not just about breathtaking beauty, but above all about unique handling. You automatically hold The Knife. like a professional chef holds a chef's knife. Your thumb and index finger form a U and securely grasp the blade. The middle finger is comfortably "parked" in the finely crafted recess at the end of the blade. This places the center of gravity perfectly inside the hand, ensuring fatigue-free working.
No transitions are distracting, all lines flow smoothly. This automatically guarantees the correct grip position and a comfortable hand rest.
Cooking with The Knife is actually even more fun than just looking at it!
Producing forged knives of the highest quality and in small batches by hand has always been, is, and remains Franz Güde's philosophy – for four generations and without any compromises. The employees of the Franz Güde manufactory feel committed to the centuries-old art of knifemaking that has established the reputation of the city of Solingen.
